The Mid-Atlantic Climate Action Hub (MATCH) will establish connections across D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, and Pennsylvania, focusing on communities disproportionately impacted by the effects of climate change due to their traditionally heightened exposure to environmental hazards.
In the article, Dr. Wilson highlights the gravity of the issue, stating:
“Communities of color and low-wealth populations in the mid-Atlantic are exposed to more traffic-related air pollution, emissions from incinerators and power plants, agricultural contaminants, landfills, brownfields and other toxic environments that harm health.”
He also discusses the long-term goals of MATCH, adding that the initiative will “leverage resources that will help frontline and fence line communities take action to address these injustices.”
MATCH’s collaborators are optimistic about the project’s impact and emphasize its community-centered approach to addressing environmental health concerns rooted in socioeconomic status and other external factors.
